As the premiere orthopaedic program for the state’s only health sciences university, our faculty are firmly committed to educating the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons, sharing with them the skills and knowledge needed to advance the field of orthopaedic medicine.
The excellence of our Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training program reflects the dedication of our thirty-seven academic faculty members who nurture the scholarly activity of the Department. Led by R. Dale Blasier, M.D., Residency Program Director, Corey Montgomery, M.D., Associate Director, and Steven Cherney, M.D., Associate Director, our training program benefits from a faculty that is committed to sharing their accrued knowledge and expertise to the next generation of eminently qualified orthopaedic surgeons.

C. Lowry Barnes, M.D., Chair of the Department and UAMS Orthopaedic Surgery Alumni, currently serves as president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Highly skilled and highly specialized, our UAMS Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty members are recognized nationally and internationally for their advanced treatment techniques and exceptional outcomes that exemplify the quality of specialty expertise and innovative care. Our faculty is engaged in collaborative research that is designed to expand the body of scientific knowledge needed to address the complexity of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries and develop better solutions that improve healing, speed rehabilitation, and enhance patient outcomes. They serve on the boards of the nation’s premier orthopaedic organizations and publish articles in many of the world’s leading orthopaedic journals.
The training of residents is one of our most important missions—and we are very proud that our graduates have gone on to become leaders at major hospitals, academic institutions, and practices throughout our field.
