UAMS Health Awarded Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Spinal Fusion Certification

UAMS Health has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Certification in Spinal Fusion. The Gold Seal represents a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s demonstrated ability to implement result-driven processes and advance patient outcomes.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that meticulously reviews and certifies disease-specific programs in the United States. The Commission selects specific disease treatments like spine fusion for review and certification. Their certification award recognizes organizations with protocols proven to deliver better outcomes within a practice specialty.

UAMS Health is the first health organization in Arkansas to receive the spinal fusion certification.

What is spine fusion surgery?

Spinal fusion is a complex surgery to connect two or more bones in any part of the spine. Connecting the bones prevents movement between them to make it more stable, correct a problem or reduce pain.  Spinal fusion can help correct problems with the way the spine is formed, such as in scolisosis.  It can also be used to stabilize the spine in cases of severe arthritis or after a damaged disk is removed.

Achieving this certification is a reflection of UAMS Health’s commitment to provide the highest quality of care and safety every day for patients with spine disorders.
