UAMS Health Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is partnering with the American Track League to serve as its sports medicine providers for a four-meet, made-for-TV series on ESPN/ESPN2.
The series, which kicks off today at 2:00 pm CST features some of the top men’s and women’s track and field athletes in the world. As a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver Label event, athletes will have an opportunity to earn bonus points based on their performances that can enhance their ability to advance to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the American Track League for this exciting four-meet event,” says Wes Cox, M.D., Division Chief, UAMS Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Northwest Arkansas. “Our team of physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists are equipped to deliver high-quality sports medicine care that help elite athletes perform at their very best.”
Cox, who is fellowship-trained both in shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine, has 13 years of sports medicine experience working with professional and collegiate athletes, which includes serving as the head team physician for the University of Arkansas’s track and field team.
UAMS Health’s team of rehabilitation professionals at Train Recover Move (TRM) has worked extensively with many athletes at both the professional and collegiate level. Andy Glidewell, DPT, ATC, OCS, who has worked with USA Track & Field since 2014, has served on several national and international teams providing comprehensive care to USATF’s elite athletes.
The 2021 season, which was originally set to take place in various cities around the US, is being held on the campus of the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track and Field Center in order to create a strict COVID protocol for all athletes, coaches and officials.
The partnership provides the American Track League with comprehensive, world-class care from UAMS Health’s top sports medicine physicians and rehabilitation professionals.
