Lecture: Importance of an Implant Retrieval Lab: The Exactech Recall
Douglas Padgett, M.D., is currently the Surgeon in Chief and Medical Director at Hospital for Special Surgery as well as the Korein-Wilson Professor and Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College. A graduate of St. Michael’s College (Vt) and New York Medical College, Dr. Padgett completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at HSS followed by a one-year fellowship in joint replacement at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. Following a 3-year term as director of joint replacement at Naval Hospital San Diego, he returned to HSS as an attending surgeon. Upon his return, he served as Chief of Orthopaedics at the Bronx VA and subsequently became the Chief of the Arthroplasty service until 2019 whereupon he assumed the role of Associate Surgeon Chief.
He has served on the boards of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons as well as the Hip Society where he was president from 2018-2019. His research has resulted in numerous awards from the Knee Society, Hip Society and American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has been a visiting professor to academic centers around the globe and was recently named an Honorary Member of the British Hip Society. He still maintains a busy clinical practice focusing on the treatment of disorders of the hip and knee. In September 2023, Dr. Padgett assumed his current role as the 14th Surgeon in Chief at Hospital for Special Surgery.

Lecture: Lessons Learned After 3 Decades of THA
Robert Trousdale, M.D. earned his B.S. from Notre Dame and his M.D. from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1987. He completed his Internship and Fellowship from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He spent one year as an M. Muller Foundation Fellow/Mayo Foundation Scholar in Berne, Switzerland. He joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1992. He is currently a consultant in the Department of Orthopedics, Mayo Clinic, a Professor of Orthopedics of the Mayo College of Medicine. In 2001 Dr. Trousdale was named an ABC Traveling Fellow by the American Orthopedic Association.
Dr. Trousdale is active in teaching and research. Teaching duties include numerous publications and lectures to orthopedic residents, fellows and other orthopedic organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Trousdale’s orthopedic interests include adult hip and knee reconstruction, primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, and hip joint salvage surgery. He serves on numerous institutional and departmental committees. He is on the Editorial Board and is a consultant reviewer for many orthopedic journals. He has organized and moderated numerous regional, national, and international orthopedic courses. In his spare time, Dr. Trousdale enjoys spending time with his wife, Mary, his four children and 10 grandchildren. He enjoys playing golf, tennis, squash, and hiking.
