Jerry’s Story: Knee
Jerry Williamson of Little Rock gained a new perspective on life after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2004. He began volunteering at Saint Mark Baptist Church four days a week, helping feed homeless people. Combined with golf and pickleball matches, this work took a toll on his knees. Knowing the compassionate care he received at UAMS at both the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, he asked for a recommendation for help with his knee and was referred to orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Stambough. The doctor performed a total knee replacement on Williamson’s left knee and treated his right one with a steroid injection. Williamson was soon able to return to volunteering and golf.
