Welcome to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
College of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

We hope that you will find it educational and user-friendly. In the information provided, it is our goal that our commitment to education and research as well as to the clinical care of our patients is abundantly clear.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is emerging as a national leader in clinical practice, education and research and we take great pride in our exceptionally talented team of Orthopaedic Surgeons, researchers and staff. We believe that expert care by sub-specialty experts in Orthopaedics in an academic setting is the perfect setting for world class education and orthopaedic knowledge expansion. Our robust and expanding relationship with our orthopaedic colleagues in private practice serves our community and region very well.

For prospective students, residents and fellows the educational opportunities we provide are unrivaled across the country. Whether working in the only level one trauma center in Arkansas under internationally renowned surgeons, learning cutting edge Total Joint Arthroplasty techniques, understanding the latest in pediatric orthopaedics or standing on the sidelines of our local college and high school teams I promise you that your educational experience will set a foundation you will respect and benefit from your entire career.

We have the best residents around and are excited that they complete our program not only well-trained as general orthopaedic surgeons ready to begin practice but also as fellows in the most prestigious fellowships in the country. Most importantly, they complete the program happy that they trained with us and became our peers. This friendship lasts a lifetime and is celebrated at our annual reception at AAOS meetings where over 200 people attended last year’s event at House of Blues in New Orleans.

While we are the Orthopaedic experts in our state, we realize the profound benefit of supplementing our education as well as the education of our residents and colleagues with experts from around the world. From the latest in stem cell and nanotechnology, robotic surgery, micro-vascular surgery or infection, we have experts from around the world share their knowledge with us. The annual Orthopaedic Forum is the perfect avenue for this and in 2014 had 157 attendees for lectures by Dr James Andrews, the undisputed leader in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Our close relationship with The Arkansas Orthopaedic Society serves as another means for outstanding knowledge sharing in a relaxed atmosphere as we host AAOS Presidents and Orthopaedic thought leaders at our annual meeting at Five Oaks Duck Club in the Duck Hunting Capital of the World.

I encourage you to read more about our faculty of whom are leaders in our field as well as national organizations, and are key contributors to the orthopaedic literature. Most importantly, they are accessible, patient-driven orthopaedic surgeons who understand the art of “doctoring”.

As you can tell, I am extremely excited to be a part of this wonderful department that is dedicated to continual improvement.
